The sexualization of women and girls surround Americans and is damaging to females as well as to American society. Females receive the sexualized messages regarding their appearance and how they should act via the media, retailers, and American society’s acceptance of these behaviors. As a mother, Girl Scout Leader, and school paraprofessional I cannot help but to question are these messages inflicting psychological damage on girls? Whom can I hold accountable for sexualizing female youth? What can I do to prevent sexualization from affecting all of the young girls in my life? The sexualization of girls is unacceptable because it is degrading to females, can cause serious life-long psychological damage and sexist attitudes, and may lead to violence against women and girls. Sexualization differs from healthy sexuality. According to the American Psychological Association Task Force (APA), healthy sexuality is something that develops spontaneously in people that have not suffered any kind of traumatic sexual crisis. Healthy sexuality includes affection, a relationship and/or companionship, respect, and healthy intimacy between consenting people (APA 1). Sexualization, on the other hand, is something that is forced upon a person. Answer: Introduction Racial formation is about how racial categories are determined by the economic, social and political forces of the time(Winut). Racial Formation during World War II and the America Dream in Chicago During the time of World War II, the social life of American changed drastically. The government took over the countrys economy while 17 million of Americans (black or white) went to war, because they were willing to disrupt their lives for a promise of a better life in the future after war. The most affected groups during the war were the black people living in Chicago. Their social lives were highly affected, where 24,000 of black owned land was repossessed and transformed in to country clubs for the white people. The American dream favoured the white over Blacks(Coats). Houses owned by black people were highly taxed than those of the white people. Black people were largely cut out of the mortgage market during World War II. And those that afforded to own homes were consigned to central city communities most of which was paid to the white folks. Socially, the blacks were not allowed to visit white owned restaurants, board and sit in white busses and could not even be given a chance to enjoy class and lifestyles. The height of racism came in after the world war and continued all the way to the late 60s as there was no more interracial living as observed before the war. Conclusion In conclusion, the World War II, did not fulfil the American dream, but made it worse by encouraging breaking up of social, economic and political structures of the country. Question: Describe about the Smoking In Public Places? Answer: Smoking is injurious to health. This is a truth no one can deny. Smoking harms most of the organs of the body. 87 % of lung cancer deaths are caused by smoking (Nlm.nih.gov, 2015). It also causes many other health problems. These include cancer of the mouth, liver, stomach, kidneys, pancreas, cervix, colon, rectum, throat, liver. Autoimmune system also gets hampered due to smoking. There may be disturbance in vision and blindness may also occur. Blood vessels get thickened and it thus increases blood pressure. Bones get weak and it gives rise to osteoporosis. Chronic asthma, pneumonia, tuberculosis and other pulmonary disease are other problems that arise due to smoking. Women who smoke get problems during pregnancy (Betobaccofree.hhs.gov). Smoking kills millions of people every year. Smoking causes about one in five deaths in United States each year. About 480,000 deaths happen annually, including the deaths from passive smoking in U.S.A. (Jha et al.). Smoking is not only injurious for the smoker but also for other people. The smoke coming is breathed in by others who are nearby and they also develop the same problems. This is known as passive smoking or second hand smoking (Nlm.nih.gov). It is a cause of danger for everyone. The smoke coming from tobacco has thousands of chemicals out of which over 50 are causes of cancer. Compounds like ammonia, formaldehyde, sulphur irritate the throat, nose, eyes, and lungs. These become harmful to people suffering from respiratory diseases like asthma and bronchitis. Exposure to smoking triggers symptoms and worsens them. Passive smoking has been proved to be a cause for lung cancer by different health organisations(Better Health Channel). Breathing in such second hand smoke is harmful in children. They develop chances of cot death, developing asthma, meningitis, cold and cough, hearing problem (Nhs.uk). Passive smoking increase risk of stillbirth, miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy in pregnant wo men. The more the woman is exposed to smoking, the more is the chance of getting affected by it. Pregnant woman who are subjected to passive smoking have a tendency to give birth to babies who are susceptible to cancer. The same genetic damage in unborn infants occurs as in adult smokers who have cancerous tumour (Mail Online, 2014). These factors have led to ban on smoking in public places. Now-a-days many countries across the world have put a ban on smoking in private places. There are the public policies, consisting of laws and regulations related to health and safety that inhibit smoking of tobacco in public places. Smoking is optional in our lives. But breathing is definitely not optional. Thus banning smoking from public places ensures protection of people from effects of passive smoking which are cancer, heart disease among the others. There are legislators where there are evidences for harmful effects of smoking and passive smoking. Other reasons why smoking is banned in public places are reduction in risk of occurrence of fire where explosives are present, cleanliness in the places where medicines, food, instruments, machinery are made, less amount of litter. We all know that cigarette smoking is injurious to health. The Government of different country invests a lot of money every year behind anti smoking campaign (The Washington post). The question is whether smoking should be banned in public or not? To address this we need to consider the ill effects of smoking. According to American Lung Association Cigarettes composed of about 600 ingredients. When someone burn it, they are generating several chemical compounds and the number is 7000 (American Lung Association). Many of the similar compounds found in cigars as well as hookahs and pipes. According to a report of the National Cancer Institute cigars contain higher amount of toxins, carcinogen and tar than cigarettes (National Cancer Institute). In United State the rate of death or mortality rate of smokers is three times more compare to non smoker. Smoking causes severe systemic damage to our vital systems. One of the components of tobacco is Nicotine. Its a stimulant of nervous system. But when its effect are subsided people might be feeling tired and crave more. Smoking may cause the risk of cataracts, and poor eyesight and degeneration of muscle. If a person withdraws smoking, it will make him irritated, anxious and depressed. Smoking causes harm to lung system. Gradually our lung will lose the capacity of filtering. Smokers have the tendency to develop colds, flu and respiratory infections compare to others. Smoking reduces the level of good cholesterol and increase the blood pressure. It increases the risk of blood clot formation. Apart from that it has great impact on our digestive system, our external organs and our reproductive system. A smoker experience different complications during her pregnancy period which include miscarriage, problem with premature delivery. A pregnant mother who is exposed to passive smoking has the higher chance of delivering a baby with low weight during birth. So people should be careful enough while smoking. They should keep in mind that they are not only harming themselves but also their upcoming generations. But confliction regarding antismoking campaign does exist regarding the following issue (Heartland.org). Smokers who already pay a high amount of money as tax need the write of smoking. It hurts small businesses. The harm causes by smoking can be reduced by educating the smokers. Encourage them to use electronic cigarettes. Considering the above facts it seems that we should allow smoking in public place. But before being judgmental we need to think several times. For some people smoking is not a substance for addiction, for them it is the commodity for showing their status and luxury. They spend a handsome amount of money for their luxury. We should always remember that it is a habit which leads a person to death. As a responsible citizen of a country we need to take care about the well being of our country. Number of people affected by passive smoking is also very high. So considering this facts one should avoid smoking in a public place. Anorexia Nervosa Anorexia is an eating disorder that usually strikes women between the ages of fifteen and thirty-five. An estimated one thousand females will die each year from anorexia. About eighty percent of females suffer from a sub clinical eating disorder and twenty percent will turn into full-blown anorexics in their lifetime. These are statistics that we know of. Anorexia can be hidden very well by many that suffer from it; therefore there are many cases we do not know of. Anorexia is a disorder in which preoccupation with dieting and thinness leads to excessive weight loss. The individual may not realize that weight loss or restricted eating is a problem. (Internet Mental Health www.mentalhealth.com). Anorexia may not be noticed in the early stages because it often starts as an innocent diet. They often become hyperactive because they exercise frantically in an attempt to burn calories to lose weight. Even though the anorexic is emaciated, she still feels "fat" and wants to hide her "ugly, fat body". A victim does not need to appear underweight or even average to suffer any signs or symptoms of anorexia. Many men and women with eating disorders appear not to be underweight, but this does not mean they suffer any less or are in any less danger. This is why in later and more dangerous stages; family members may not notice the disease because the anorexic usually wears layered and baggy clothes. (www.somethingfishy.com). Presence of a low self-esteem is the most common element in anorexia nervosa. Stress, anxiety and unhappiness can also be leading factors in an anorexic life. Anorexia is their way of dealing and coping with the negative things going on in their life. Most people with eating disorders share certain personality traits, low self-esteem, feelings of helplessness and a fear of becoming fat. People with Anorexia tend to be "too good to be true." They rarely disobey, keep their feelings to themselves, and tend to be perfectionists, good students, and excellent athletes. Some researchers believe that people with anorexia restrict food, particularly carbohydrates, to gain a sense of control in some area of their lives. They have followed the wishes of others in their lives, and they have not learned how to cope with the problems typical of adolescence, growing up, and becoming independent. Controlling their own weight offers two advantages in their eyes; first they can take control of their bodies and secondly, gain approval of others. It is not uncommon to find an anorexic that feels high after periods of starvation. This is due to their feelings of inadequacy. Their poor self image and perception leads to feelings of guilt, they feel like they never do anything right and nothing they ever do is enough. Starvation is an accomplishment in their eyes, something they can do right. They also feel that their life would be better if they could lose weight, or that more people would like them if they lost weight. Anorexics feel a need to control physical and emotional surroundings. In this way eating disorders are a negative coping mechanism, used to control emotions or to keep them suppressed. It feels easier to think about food, food intake, hunger, planning meals or avoiding them, instead of dealing with their emotions. Eating disorders can have a numbing effect, and can give victims a feeling of power over their emotions. Although genetic factors may play a role in the development of anorexia, other influences play a role such as behavioral and environmental. A recent study found that mothers who are overly concerned about their daughter's weight and physical attractiveness might put the girls at increased risk of developing an eating disorder. The furnaces produces metal dusts, slam and gaseous emissions. Smoke is produced during charging of the furnace. Air emission from the industry includes nitrogen dioxide, secular dioxide and carbon monoxide and thick black smoke. Particularly pollution is generated due to poor quality of scrap bundled Scrap which is being used by Meltzer consists mainly of spent containers of edible oil, paints lubricants and even Auber. There are 11 re-rolling mills and using locally manufactures billets, which are reheated in gas or oil fired open gas furnace. The environment related issue is the occasional discharge of black smoke. Large quantities of steam are used as a main heating medium in ghee manufacturing processes. Steam is also used for creating the vacuum required in ghee manufacturing. During this time major air emissions are nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide and carbon monoxide. The extremely high level of consumption of fresh water by these industries has resulted in generation of large volume of waste water. Major waste water pollutants from this industry include oil and grease, soaps and suspended solids. There are 31 marble cutting and polishing units in the industrial area of Islamabad The excess water displaced by the gathering sludge overflows without properly settling and is discharged into the effluent channels of the industrial estate. This water carries large amounts of marble powder, which gradually settles at the bottom of the drain channels. The marble sludge in the settling tanks is removed periodically and dumped in the vicinity of the factory. Eventually; the sludge dries in the sun and its particle become airborne. This causes air pollution problems for the inhabitants of the surrounding area. In some marble units, settling pits are not cleaned as scheduled, clogging effluent drain channels in the vicinity of the marble unit. Disposal of recovered sludge is the major environmental problem facing the marble manufacturing units. Another solid wastes generated by the marble units is the cutting waste. There are about ten pharmaceutical industries in III. Sulfuric acid is being used extensively to remove dust and scale. Gallivanting process releases acidic fumes and generate waste waters and solid wastes. Objectives 1 . To study the socio-economic conditions of the respondent. 2. RESEARCH METHODOLOGY Methodology is actually is a system of principles which guide the scientific investigation. The purpose of methodology is to describe the research deign. It works as the guideline for the researcher. In the present research the data will be analyzed with the help of statistical package for Social sciences. A prepared set of questions will be designed to generate data necessarily for accomplishing the objectives of the research project. In order to conduct the present research, quantitative research method was used to get the proposed information from the respondents. A sample of 260 respondents had been drawn through simple random sampling techniques, 104 respondents had been selected from 1-9 sector and 156 respondents had been selected from I-I Sectors. In the present study the data was collected tit the help of interview schedule. An interview schedule is a set of questions, which are asked to the respondents in face to face interaction. The data was systematically tabulated and statistically analyzed to bring into equivalent forms. Different statistical tools and techniques were used for the analysis and interpretation of results. The data was analyzed by SPAS.
