When you’re in love, everything else seems irrelevant. The euphoria of the in-love state gives an illusion that we have an intimate relationship, when really the other person may not feel the same way. People get a sense that they belong to each other. They believe together they can conquer all problems. Most of all, couples feel altruistic toward one another. As one young man said about his fiancà ©e, â€Å"I can’t conceive of doing anything to hurt her. My only desire is to make her happy. I would do anything to maker her happy.† (Chapman, 2014). Such obsession gives us a sense that we are altruistic and do not just care for ourselves, but also for others. The reason people are willing to give up anything and everything for their loved one is that they sincerely believe that their significant other feels the same way. Yet, do feelings change overtime as the relationship goes from the honeymoon phase to the mature stage?
